29 DECEMBER 2010
Hi all,
Since it's the second last day of the year and all we thought it would be a good time to say thank you for all your support over the year and let you know what we've got coming up.
July of this year we released our third album 'Dear Darkly' and we've been thrilled with the response to it and the singles Echo Stick Guitars, Soporific and Damn Defensive. Thank to all the people who pre-ordered a copy direct from the website, especially the first ten people who also got to request a cover song from us - things have been pretty crazy with touring but we assure you the 8 that remain to be covered are still very much on the to do list (even 'Battery').
USA ITUNES FEATURE and BEST OF LISTS
It's been nice to see Dear Darkly pop up on some end of year lists too. Notably US iTunes, who put Dear Darkly on their 2010 best of Indie list and included 'Under the Ocean on a 20 track indie spotlight compilation along with Arcade Fire, Yeasayer, Wavves, Surfer Blood, Local Natives, Beach House, Deerhunter, Two Door Cinema Club, Junip (feat. Jose Gonzalez) and fellow 'Strines, Tame Impala.
If you live in the USA you can get Dear Darkly from iTunes for only $7.99 until January 1, 2011 as part of their feature.
Or you can still get a physical copy anywhere in the world directly from our website at www.theboatpeople.com.au/deardarkly
Closer to home it was great to see DD pop up on Mess and Noise's top 50 Australian albums with Triple J Home and Hosed presenter Dom Allessio adding in his review "Dear Darkly' should be lauded for its adventurous spirit, intelligent arrangements, but most of all, for being a sublime, idiosyncratic pop record.” ". Triple J Breakfast host Alex Dyson also included it in his top 10 for the year.
TRIPLE J HOTTEST 100
If you agree with what's been said about Dear Darkly then please cast a vote for Damn Defensive in the Triple J Hottest 100 - making the list would be a great way to kick off the new year!

The Boat People want you to find the antidote to musical boredom – dance it away. They are providing this salve to their fans via radio in the form of a brand, spanking new double A-side and remix package.
This package for radio features the one, two hit of anti-boredom of The Boat People’s latest Dear Darkly album cuts 'Antidote', a special radio edit of 'Dance to My Pain' and additional remixes by No Device and Ming the Merciless. The selected tracks, 'Dance to My Pain' and 'Antidote' with their upbeat, dance vibes were perfect candidates for remixing and dance party radio playlists.
No Device brings the beats for remixes of both tracks - 'Antidote' and 'Dance to Pain' and Ming the Merciless bust out their 'Antidote Pantydote' remix. The opening two tracks of the package (a radio edit of 'Dance to My Pain' and 'Antidote') were written by James O’Brien, who also penned The Boat People’s triple j-spun track, 'Damn Defensive'.
To celebrate these tracks hitting radiowaves around Australia , The Boat People are hitting venues throughout Victoria , New South Wales and Queensland . Joining them on tour will be support from special guests Jewel and the Falcon - featuring members of Red Sun Band and Youth Group the band will add their girl/boy indie-pop guitar flavour to shows in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane.
This completes what has been a busy and fantastic year for The Boat People - a headline album tour, The Bedroom Philosopher tour, the release of their album, Dear Darkly and the three subsequent singles, 'Soporific', 'Under The Ocean' and 'Echo Stick Guitars'.

We're very happy to be touring with The Bedroom Philosopher in August/ Sept 2010!

While continuing a trend of difficult song titles (Awkward Orchid Orchard anyone?), The Boat People will no-doubt further confuse the expectations of those who claimed that last year’s “Echo Stick Guitars” heralded an electro turn-about for the band.
New single ‘Soporific’ treads some very different terrain, sounding more like… well, you’re the music fan but certainly “different from the last one” is a good start and makes the release of 3rd album in April an intriguing prospect.
While the word soporific may not get as much usage as LMAO in the present day vernacular, it made it into the song at least in part due to Robin Water’s childhood exposure to “Peter Rabbit” by Beatrix Potter.
To quote Beatrix “It is said that the effect of eating too much lettuce is "soporific." I have never felt sleepy after eating lettuces; but then I am not a rabbit. They certainly had a very soporific effect upon the Flopsy Bunnies! The Flopsy Bunnies simply stuffed lettuces. By degrees, one after another, they were overcome with slumber, and lay down in the mown grass.”
The track was recorded with Jonathon Burnside (Sleepy Jackson, Dappled Cities), John Castle (Washington) and Joe Hammond.
After tagging along with Red Riders in late 2009, The Boat People are looking forward to a headline jaunt in March to launch Soporific, which will be officially released on Feb 15th via iTunes.
They’ll also be following up on their 2009 SXSW successes, joining Paul Dempsey, Wagons, Crayon Fields and Washington to play the Melbourne launch of the SXSW Aussie BBQ for 2010. Another trip across the pacific is slated for June.
